Last entry!!

This week we have no tutorial class but we need to participate in online forum. We are discussing about how the company motivate and reward the employee. I answered the question based on my work experience before.

In the lecture session we have taught two chapters which are chapter 10 & 11. Chapter 10 describe about building an organization capable of good strategy execution. It’s related with people in an organization, capabilities and structure. Good strategy execution requires a team effort. All managers have strategy-executing responsibility in their areas of authority, and all employees are active participants in the strategy execution process. It also defines the 10 basic tasks of the strategy execution process. Then, we continue with chapter 11, managing internal operations. This chapter we have learnt why resources allocation should always be based on strategic priorities and how the organization continues improve driven by best practices and process management tools. These short chapters, we can finish it in 2hours and few minutes.

Before we started the lecture, Miss Ummi distributes a piece of paper which is the question of Myers Brigss Type Indicator (MBTI). The question is about ourselves and the answer of question is defined of our job scope in the future based on the characteristic we have. We enjoy answering that question and so excited to waiting the answer out on the screen.

Ok that’s all for this entry…we have to do preparation for our presentation next week and final exam next month (^_^) all the best!!

Chapter 12 – Corporate culture & leadership

We have no lecture and tutorial for this topic. We just do an online forum in goals. The interesting question is given which is the discussion of corporate culture and leadership in an organization. The other question is what the value we practice in an organization if we are top management. Most of us give the similar answer for the second question. It might be, the day before the forum, we have done the Islamic work ethic assignment so, we learnt more about it and suggest the all organization should implement the Islamic value.
So, the topic actually describe about the culture of employee and employer in an organization. The character of a company’s culture is a product of the core values and beliefs that executive espouse such as the standards of what is ethically acceptable and what is not or the chemistry and the personality that permeates the work environment, the company's traditions and so on. In the other word, corporate culture is about the norm and behaviour of members in an organization.

Therefore, the implementation of ethical standard in an organization is important and it’s the one of strategy to that company achieve the success in business. It should begin from the top management, for example the manager have to show the good ethic and honorable manner to others employee. The bad ethics will affect the business performance and it’s involving a lot of cost when the ethical wrongdoing is discovered. However, it can be change by four step which are:

I think this topic is quite easy to understand than another topics (^_^) ok..that’s all for this topic.

Corporate Strategy (Diversification and the Multibusiness Company)

Alhamdulillah Allah gives to us a big opportunity to continue our life to make a good deed today….ok we start this topic with the story in tutorial class. My class have advantage for this topic because Miss Ummi assign to us to read and tried to answer a one article which is about UMW Holdings. The question given is look easy but…most of us cannot to answer that question huhu..Before we started the tutorial, she give to us a simple quote “the early bird get the worm, the second mouse get the cheese” we divide to two groups to elaborate the meaning of it.  My group got the second sentence. In simply meaning, the quote is related with a strategy to achieve something what we aim.

Ok.. UMW Holding is the one of company involve in automotive assembly and distribution. Besides that, UMW Corporation also contributes others three core business which are automotive components OEM and REM, heavy components and oil and gas drilling services. They are faced big challenge to sustain the position in market and to gain the profit because they need to compete with others rival which is in same industry, automotive industry. Thus, to growth their business they are decided to venture into the oil and gas industry in Malaysia. This move was part of the effort to buffer the effect of the pending fiercer competition in the Malaysian automotive industry.

So, back to our topic, UMW Corporation does the diversification in their core business to make company growth although the fierce competition in the Malaysian automotive occurs. Its look has big risk but as long as the capabilities and resources is enough, they can move on and execute in good strategies management. Do not be a greediness to gain profit when we have no enough capability…Alhamdulillah on the lecture session, we have a bit preparation on this topic (^_^)

Special week with our guest – Pn Hasnidar Hanim Yusof

In this week, we have special guest, Pn. Hasnidar Hanim, she is the owner of Oshima Restaurant which is provide several of Japanese traditional food. She has degree and MBA in engineering and she is engineer although she hates that profession. Oshima restaurant was launched because she want to provide Halal Japanese Food for Malaysian people especially Muslim. Besides that, she does not want to continue her career as an engineer, she want to spend more time with family and child while she can get profit to her family.

It’s not easy to her to build up that restaurant although she has enough capability and resources because she lack of knowledge of business. For the first Oshima is opened, it’s not in one place or branch only, she launched in many area around three branch. Unfortunately, two or one of branch was failed and she needs to close it. From that, she learned something in business, she need to sustain the position and cover the beginning capital or modal first. Oshima Restaurant is not the one of restaurant which provides Japanese food. To open it she needs to compete with others Japanese restaurant in Malaysia such us Sushi King. There are many challenges to her in get halal product and ingredient of Japanese food. As we know, the japan people make their food mix with alcohol and others thing that does not compliance in Islam. However, it is the one of Oshima speciality because they are provide 100% halal Japanese food. Proud of her and family and May Allah bless on what she is doing for others people.. (^_^)

Week 7 – Strategies for Competing In International Market

Last week, we learnt this topic actually but I was not able to attend that class on the day (29.10.2013- Tuesday) because I have to attend my MUET exam (speaking task) at SMK Taman Desa, Rawang. Actually my test is on 28.10.2013 but I stayed at my friend’s house to easy for me going to that school. I was a bit worried and nervous along the way going to the school huhu.. I said to myself “it’s only for 30minutes…I can do it”

I think my situation on the day is related to this topic. It means, I need to compete with other students from various place or universities. They are like “international market” to me because my comfortable zone is around the USIM with my friends and lectures but today I need to face with new person, and I need “strategies” to doing well. Showed the confident on my view and expression (but in my heart..dup dup dup hahahaha).

It is interesting day… my candidates friends from UITM Shah Alam n Perdana.. (They are junior hehe) only one from us is workers and he pursue his study at UITM Perdana. Alhamdulillah I finished my test at 13:30PM.. Thanks to my friends, Fatin and Syazana because willing to wait for me until my test finished.

I promise Miss, I will read this topic (^_^) InsyaAllah..

Week 6 – Strengthening a Company’s Competitive Position: Strategic Moves, Timing, and Scope of Operations.

This week we learnt strategic options to improve a company’s market position (offensive strategy) and defensive strategies which in protecting market position and competitive advantage. The company needs to choose the basis for competitive attack and which rival to attack. The special kind of offensive is blue ocean strategy, its mean your company have more advantage than any rival. In simply word, no rival do what your company do. The best way to offensive the rival is use capabilities and resources of company to attack rivals through ‘surprise’ way by rival’s weaknesses.

The purposes of defensive strategies are to lower the risk of being attacked and weaken the impact of any attack that occurs. The important thing of strategy is to protect company’s position by two actions which are actions to block challengers and actions to signal the likelihood of strong retaliation. The other things we learn in this chapter are benefits of strategic alliances, its advantages and horizontal and vertical scope and so on.

That’s all I can share in this chapter..I think this chapter is quite difficult for me to understand huhuhu hopefully, I enjoy when I read it later..
